Cowboys Defeated by Browns
"Cowboys Defeated by Browns After Brandon Aubrey’s Missed Field Goal in Madden Simulation"
In a candid interview with Kristina Jones on her show In the Zone,
NBA star Kevin Durant shared his thoughts on several topics, including his
unwavering support for the Washington Commanders and his strong dislike for the
Dallas Cowboys and their fanbase. Having grown up in the Washington, D.C. area,
Durant expressed frustration over how many of his friends and family supported
the Cowboys, rather than backing local D.C. sports teams.
Durant didn’t hold back, even using the word "hate" to describe
his feelings towards the Cowboys. However, in a surprising twist, he admitted
that Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott is one of his top picks for the NFL MVP
award.
"It's easy to say Lamar [Jackson] and Patty [Mahomes], Jalen
Hurts," Durant said when asked who he thought could win MVP. "But I'm
going to go with... I can't say that because I hate the Cowboys. I was going to
say Dak Prescott."
Jones, clearly taken aback, responded, "Wait, you were really going to
give Dak the MVP?"
Durant paused before explaining his reasoning. "Cause the Cowboys play well in the regular season. For the last three or four years, I think," Durant noted, highlighting Prescott’s consistent performances. Despite his disdain for the Cowboys, Durant’s assessment of Prescott’s regular-season success was on point. Prescott has posted impressive numbers, passing for at least 4,449 yards and 30 touchdowns in 2019, 2021, and 2023. Injuries have been the main setbacks for Prescott, as he missed significant time in 2020 due to a compound ankle fracture and in 2022 with a thumb injury, limiting him to just 17 games combined during those two seasons.
Durant also acknowledged that the Cowboys' regular-season success has not
been the issue. Instead, it’s the team’s inability to get over the hump in the
postseason that continues to tarnish their legacy. "The stats are there.
Dak's putting up big numbers, but the Cowboys always seem to fall apart when it
matters most—in the playoffs," Durant said.
The Cowboys' playoff struggles have been a recurring theme over the past two decades, and while Prescott’s individual performances have been solid, the team has consistently fallen short when it comes to making a deep postseason run. In fact, since Prescott took over as the starting quarterback in 2016, the Cowboys have only won two playoff games, leading to criticism not only of Prescott but also of head coach Mike McCarthy and owner Jerry Jones.
Durant’s comments also touched on the larger issues surrounding the Cowboys’
franchise. "It’s not just Dak—it’s the whole system. From coaching
decisions to front-office moves, something always seems to go wrong for them
when they reach the playoffs," Durant pointed out.
Durant’s unexpected acknowledgment of Prescott’s talent underscores the
quarterback’s complicated narrative in the NFL: a top performer in the regular
season who has yet to translate that success into postseason glory. For Durant,
a lifelong Commanders fan, that frustration is something he’s all too familiar
with—making his begrudging respect for Prescott’s skills that much more
telling.
In a league where quarterbacks like Patrick Mahomes and Lamar Jackson
dominate the MVP conversation, Durant's pick of Prescott reflects the high
expectations surrounding the Cowboys each season. However, as Durant and many
others have pointed out, until Prescott and the Cowboys can find consistent
postseason success, they’ll continue to be seen as a team that’s great on paper
but struggles when it counts.
